Dr. Rachel Butler, PT, DPT
Since Rachel became of Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2006, she has worked with women who suffer from persistent pelvic pain. While she was based in orthopedic practices for many years, patients coming in the door with varying diagnoses (low back pain, hamstring syndrome, etc) ended up in her treatment room when symptoms didn’t resolve without pelvic floor education & treatment. She sought advanced training in dry needling, manual therapy, & completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training. She opened Cahaba Physical Therapy in Birmingham, Alabama in 2016 so that she could provide exceptional care in a calm, private, & supportive environment. She trained as a Sex Educator & Counselor so that she could address the frequent questions & concerns of those who are transitioning from pain to pleasure.
While Rachel most often educates patients in a one-on-one setting, she is also available to speak to small or large groups of folx, physical therapists, physicians, or students. She is passionate about sharing practical skills & loves to see the “a ha” moment on someone’s face as they realize that they can incorporate something simple into their own life or their patients’ repertoire.
After she published a monograph in 2018 for the American College of Ob/Gyn (ACOG) about the role of physical therapy in Ob/Gyn practice, Rachel got to speak alongside her physician father. She highly values interdisciplinary collaboration, & it was a career highlight to present next to her personal hero.
